THIS WEEK IN SOCIOLOGY OF FAMILY

This Week's Topic?

Infidelity and Cohabitation: While infidelity can seem like a random phenomenon, shaped only (?) by opportunity to cheat, we’ll discover that, like so many other things, cheating is shaped by demographic categories. Cohabitation is now more common than marriage in our culture. We will discuss whether it is good or bad for the couple and, if bad, how so and why.

Interesting Family Fact

Ouch! The Journal of Sexual Medicine reports that men who have affairs are more likely to wind up with a penile fracture (rupturing of the tissues responsible for erections).  Half of the men who report this medical issue were found to be having affairs at the time.  The explanation? The sex is likely rushed, the couple is in some kind of awkward position, or having sex in an out-of-the-ordinary location (e.g., sex in a car or in an elevator).
